Hotel Nardizzi Rome

Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Nardizzi in Rome? We are interested in staying there in May 2010. The rates will be between 123-128 euros. I know Rick had recommended it but wondering if anyone has actually stayed there.
Thanks

I will be staying there this Aug while in Rome. You should ask for discount. They give discounts depending on number of nights you will stay and also if payment is by cash.

Rashmi,
I spoke to Samy today from Hotel Nardizzi. He said he would give us a 10% discount with Rick Steves book. There was also a mention of a 10% discount for cash. I asked him about it and it is one or the other not both. I told him it doesn't
hurt to ask! He was very nice. Please enjoy your trip in Aug. and maybe you
could let me know if you liked it.
THANKS
Judy

Hi Judy,

My wife and I and two friends (30 years old) shared a quad room at Hotel Nardizzi for 3 nights total about 5 weeks ago. The rooms are clean and comfortable. They are small, but the fact that we shared a quad may have made that worse. The staff is very friendly, and most of them speak english quite well. Breakfast is good (breads, fruit, jams, etc.). It is served on the rooftop terrace which is a nice place to unwind after a day of touring Rome (weather and temperature permitting). The location is good as it is a short walk 5-10 min to Termini (and thus easy access to either metro line). There is also a metro stop for the A line 'Republica' even closer (less than 5 min).

My only complaint would be that the air conditioning is very weak, and is shut off when you leave the room (you take your key with you and give it to the staff, so all power is cut to your room). If it is hot outside, your room will be quite warm by the time you get back after touring. Since the AC is pretty weak, it doesn't really cool the room effectively. That said, however, for the price, location, and staff, I'd definitely stay there again.

Other people have complained that the elevator is small (which is true), but we were able to fit two people with luggage inside without a problem. We did take the stairs when we didn't have our luggage just so we didn't have to wait.

Hope this helps make your decision. Have a good trip!

We stayed there for 5 nights in December 3 years ago. We found it to be clean and comfortable with plenty to eat (we had hungry teens) for breakfast. At that time, we got their "overbooking special" for 55 EUR per night, which was much less than half the price of comparable hotels in the area. (They were calling the week before Christmas "low season" while others were raising their rates for the holiday season.) The Nardizzi special almost seemed too good to be true and we were a bit suspicious, but we had a great experience and it turned out to be one of our best travel bargains ever.
