Hotel location for short visit to Rome

We will only be in Rome for 2 nights. Please suggest the best central location for us to stay. We will need to get to the train at the conclusion of our stay. Thanks!

How much do you want to spend per night? What do you consider "best"? Do you mean price, location, amenities....???

I stayed at Hotel Nardizzi Americana Via Firenze 38 Rome, In aug and thought it was nice.
Staying at Hotel Mascagni Rome Via Vittorio Emanuele Orlando, 90 in December. I looked at this hotel when I was in Rome last Aug and liked its location too.

For your situation we would stay in the termini area. Convenient to local transit with some good restaurants in the area. We have used Hotel Sonya, Aberdeen, and Contilla. We prefer Sonya because my wife thinks their lattes are better. If so, it is a small margin over Aberdeen. Contilla's breakfasts are so so but super convenient just one block south of Termini's south side entrance and next to a laundry. We use Contilla for quick overnight stays when coming and leaving via train.

I would also recommend sleeping near the termini. Hotel Aberdeen would be my first choice. Followed by Oceania, Nardizzi, Sonya Or Selene Roma. All of these places are listed in RS Italy or Rome book. From these hotels you can easily walk to the station, one block to the bus line or easy walk to a metro station. Rome is very spread out so its hard to be central to all sights.
