Hotel La Scarletta in Florence

I booked us into this hotel for next October for 5 nights. I hope I have not made a mistake. While we don't expect a 5 start hotel we do expect to have a clean place to stay while in Florence. I've heard horror stories about how this hotel is filthy and dark stairs with no lights. Help! Should we try it anyway or should I look for something else. TripAdvisor has many negative comments about this hotel. However, what sold me was the photos from the top of the terrace overlooking Florence. I can only imagine sitting there with my husband, enjoying lots of wine and the beauty. But, again not sure at this point what to do. Any ideas or can anyone settle my concerns? Thanks, JM

Not sure of this hotel, as I have never stayed here. I have stayed at Hotel La Residenza, close to everything for my last two trips. While it is not fancy, you will have everything that you need, including a rooftop terrace. Nice typical italian breakfast, and Luciano is very helpful. Check out their website, and check with them directly for rates. It is worth checking on. This hotel is in a very nice area of Florence on the street of famous designers, and yet reasonable rates.

We stayed at the La Scarletta in 2001. That's a while ago, but we had a very nice experience. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was perfect. The best amenity is the roof terrace! Perfect place to relax with a glass of wine while overlooking the rooftops of Florence. The location is very convenient to just about everywhere in Florence.

We stayed there summer 2007 with a large family group. The rooms (two quads and a triple) were the biggest hotel rooms I've experienced in Europe. The terrace is lovely, and the staff was very helpful. We needed an early breakfast one morning and they were very accommodating.
