I am going to Florence from May12-16th. Has anyone stayed in the Hotel La Scaletta in Florence? I do not want to stay in a low end budget type accommodation. We are celebrating out first anniversary after meeting the love of our lives in our 70,s..want it be special. Also any recommendation would be appreciated for nice places to stay that are located well. Any suggestions for a 4 day itinerary? We like biking, museums, all the normal sites, good food, good wine, off the beaten path things and would like to do a small cooking class..with my husband...that will be a lot of laughs. I appreciate your input..thanks in advance
Do you have a link to the hotel website? The only Hotel Scaletta I can find is in Florence, not Venice.
Look at Ca Maria Adele. On a smaller canal in a quiet neighborhood but still an easy sojourn to “the” sites.
Read TripAdvisor reviews. Friends went there for their 50th Anniversary and raves about the locale, staff and ambience.
The Rick Steves Italy Guidebook 2019 is full of recommended places to stay, not low end budget type accommodations. I, too, am unable to locate the Hotel La Scaletta in Venice. Who told you about this place?
SOOOOO sorry, I did mean Florence, not Venice. Any help would be appreciated
While waiting for an answer, I looked up four hotels in Venice that I know personally, or have gotten good reports on. One (Locanda Oresola) has closed. Two are fully booked on your dates. (maybis prime time for Venice, and this is a bit late to be booking). But my favorite, Nd the place we stayed on our honeymoon, has one room available. This is La Calcina in Dorsoduro.

We had a Canal-view room, and unfortunately that is not available. But it is still a nice choice. We liked the simple decor; some Venetian hotels can be over-the-top ornate, with heavy brocade curtains and plush furnishings. We prefer more simplicity, with wood floors and wrought-iron bedsteads.
A big bonus for us was the rooftop terrace, which one can reserve for private use for an hour. We reserved a time at sunset, and bought a bottle of wine and some antipasti to share on the terrace. It was magical. On our subsequent visits ( once for a month, once for a week) to Venice we have rented apartments, and I always insist on a rooftop terrace.
Hotel La Scaletta in Florence is recommended in the Rick Steves Guidebook, and you will also find many on the forum who recommend it (if you put the name in the search bar above, you will find them). Due to those recommendations and also from friends who were there, we stayed in 2017 and loved it. The location in the Oltrarno district is wonderful and the roof top terrace had nice views. We would stay there again.
On a side note, Lola, I'm so sad to read that Locanda Orseolo has closed! On the forum's recommendations we stayed there on the same trip and absolutely had planned to go back when we returned.
Hotel Pendini, if available. Request a room facing the piazza.
Apparently they lost their lease. I know a lot of people who are sad about this.
I was there in 1989, so I can't speak to its current state. I can say the location is great and the rooftop views are wonderful!
Roberto, our poster who is from Florence, confirmed that it is a good choice.
One of the best for a 3 star category.

I wouldn’t consider it a low end budget at all, but maybe Donald Trump would. Everything is relative.
There are many more luxurious at a higher price, it really depends on your budget, there are hundreds if not thousands of hotels in Florence for all prices and likes.
That is the La Scaletti in Florence. It does look lovely.
Now we need to hear from terijdivine whether she meant Venice or Florence.
