We are two couples, flying into Verona, spending one night there and then heading up to go hiking in the Dolomites for the next ten days. We will be renting a car either at the airport or in Verona. Any recommendations of where to stay that one night in Verona? We will probably need to stay there again the night before we fly out of Italy. Recommendations? Thoughts? Advice? Thanks!

We stayed at a quaint B&B, Palazzo Gelmi, which is conveniently located a few steps from the Arena.
The owner, Lodovica Gelmi, is very pleasant & helpful.

You could look at Hotel Europa as I quite enjoyed my stay there. It's only a short distance off Piazza Bra, so a very convenient location.
B&B Panorama is very pleasant. About halfway between the arena and the train station.
Hotel Torcolo is about as central a location as one could want. If you have time for exploring it is possible to walk from there to just about anywhere in the city. The old Roman Theater is really neat as is people watching at Piazza Erbe. Google them to get the email address and contact them directly.
We are planning a trip similar to yours in June. We will be with friends who have been twice before and have made all the arrangements, including one night in Verona to attend the opera at the arena. They have highly recommended the Relais Fra Lorenzo, which looks wonderful. Located on a hillside with beautiful views and just minutes from town.
By the way, in the Dolomites we are staying at the Hotel Castel Fragsburg in Merano. Our friends rave about the place and its Michelin star restaurant.
If you are going to Verona during the opera season you might have problems getting a room for one night. I think 3 nights is the suggested minimum. Pretty sure that's true for most in the Arena area. But hey, you can always ask!
We loved the Hotel Giulietta y Romeo. It's not the cheapest place in town, but not crazy expensive either. We were there almost exactly a year ago today. The location is perfect. You can walk there from the train station (if you really want to) and the rooms are very modern. The included breakfast was as good as we had anywhere on our 2 week trip. They have a tiny little bar with reasonable prices and free snacks that is just about perfect. Most importantly, the front desk staff is patient with Americans and loaded with restaurant recommendations and advice for day trips. We had a great day trip to Lake Garda thanks to them. Verona is really worth more than one night - it's easy to ignore the Romeo and Juliet bs, although I have to admit we did check out "Juliet's balcony".
Wow! Thank you to everyone for your advice. Really appreciate it.
we stayed in the Hotel San Luca. the block right behind the McDonalds on the corso. close enough to walk to the stazione and all the sights. we loved verona. enjoy!
I second the Giulietta e Romeo Hotel....stayed there a few yrs back and booked it again for this coming May. GREAT location and lovely place!
