Hotel in Venice ..or not ?

My dilemma..

cruise comes back on Saturday morning....my flight out of Venice is 6:30am Sunday . I don't want to book a hotel for not even one whole day. I need to be at the airport by 4:30am.

Can I hang out at the train station from 10pm until 4:30 am ? I am thinking this is probably not very safe. Suggestions ?

It wouldn't be necessarily unsafe, but not sure it's a great idea. First of all I don't know if they allow it since you will not be a ticketed passenger. In the old days you could, but not sure nowadays.

Never tried it. On my first night in Venice, my body clock was messed up, so I went for a long walk to take some night photos. This was before midnight. I popped into the train station and it looked deserted. They may lock doors after hours. I don't now. There were a handful of homeless people or budget travellers lying outside in the front. I presume they were not allowed to sleep inside. Or they could be just enjoying the night air. I did not ask.

What about the airport? http://www.sleepinginairports.net/europe/venice.htm

There are some very reasonable hotels near the airport. This place is quite nice:

About a mile from the airport. Although they have a shuttle bus, at 4 am you might want to prebook a taxi.

Buying a lounge pass at the Airport seems a perfect plan. Stay in Venice as late as you want and would not have fear of missing your early AM flight.
Will cost less than the cheapest hotel, will be perfectly safe. You might not get a very good rest but much better than you will pretending to be homeless for the night.

See the sleepingineurope link. It lists the airport lounge for Venice. Unfortunately, it appears to be closed during those critical hours required by the OP.

Back in my youth, I schlept a sleeping bag all through Europe for two months for just such a contingency. Only used it twice. Now too spoiled or old to do that kind of stuff.

I looked at their website. It says open from 5 to 23. Bummer.

This is one of the biggest drawbacks of flying out of Venice. Good luck.

I have the same dilemma flying out of Copenhagen. The funny thing is, I am booked at the most expensive hotel of my trip as it is adjacent to the airport, so I don't have to worry about getting a taxi at 3:30am. I am rethinking this however...

We are staying at the Hotel Venice Resort, as mentioned above, on the last night of our trip this spring. We will be coming from the Dolomites and flying home from Venice. We booked a while ago and got a room for 90 euros. They have a shuttle service to the airport for 10 euros per person, if desired.
