Does anyone know of a hotel close to the port in Venice port? We want to spend 1 night in Venice prior to departing on a cruise. Did the same thing last year and stayed at hotel canal. They unfortunately are already booked for the nights in July we are going to be there. We are looking for something within walking distance. Any ideas?

Do you know how to use Tripadvisor? You can click on the map of venice and see all of the hotels around a particular location. Then you can read reviews about the one you're interested in.

Yep. The Hotel Papadopoli. You are about 300-400 feet from the Piazzale Roma. From the Piazzale Roma, you can get onto the people mover out to the ships. If you don't mind a longer walk from a nice 1-star inexpensive hotel near the train station, look into the Hotel Santa Lucia. It's a 1km walk according to Google maps.
