Hotel in Venice, airport shuttle provided

We will be visiting Venice on October 6-8. Can anyone recommend a hotel in Venice that provides airport transportation. There will be four of us and we will be flying out of Venice on October 8. I’m sure there will be a fee for the transportation. We could stay closer to the airport, but since it’s our first time visiting Venice, we would like to make the most of our time there.

Thank you!

You are unlikely to find a hotel in Venice proper with a free shuttle service. There likely are some in Venice Mestre (the mainland), but then you'd have to take the train to and from, and miss the early morning and late evening experience, which is really special.

You could check booking.com and filtering for airport shuttle and some of the Venice neighborhoods. But any transportation will be an additional fee. Or just hire a water taxi when you arrive, to take you to the dock closest to your hotel; or from there to the airport.

This pretty much does not exist, unless you are staying at ultra high end hotel. Venice does not have streets, it has canals. So you need to travel by the water bus (vaporetto) or very expensive private taxi.

Hello tbmullen54, and welcome to the forum!

Given the land/sea combo that is generally required in Venice the only realistic way a hotel could provide direct shuttle service to the airport would be via water taxi. This is something you can arrange, and some very high end hotels probably offer this, but it is probably about 140e for this service. If this seems like a reasonable price for direct transportation to the airport then I would discuss it with your hotel. They can arrange this for you and tell the taxi company what the closest dock is.

Unless your flight is very early you should be able to stay in Venice and make to the airport day of your flight but you should allow extra time given the logistics of travelling on water to land transportation to the airport. Generally this means vaporetto (water bus) to Piazzale Roma and then taxi or one of the two bus options to the airport. Some people stay close to Piazzale Roma to skip the water taxi part and this can be one way to beat the hassles of an early flight.

I love Venice, but it can be more logistically challenging than other places.
Have a great tip!

With 4 of you, a water taxi would not be a whole lot more than the bus + vaporetto combo, and much much easier.

A friend and I stayed at Hotel Olimpia, which is a short walk from the bus station for Venice. Great hotel and was fairly reasonably priced ($154/night in April of this year). The hotel arranged for a private driver to the airport for our 6 am flight (too early for the bus). The driver met us in the hotel lobby at 4:15 am and carried my travel companion's larger bag to the vehicle. I just had a carry on, so easy for me! I think the ride was 60 euro as I recall and was in a small van that would easily seat 4.

If you are attempting to avoid walking over bridges with luggage, choose a hotel that has an entrance on a canal, and pay for a private water taxi from the airport. We stay in the Cannaregio area, at the Ai Mori d'Oriente hotel, which has an entrance directly on a canal. This is a very beautiful and quiet area on the back canals, without crowds, where you can take sunset pix without anyone else in the frame. Yet, you are only a ten minute walk from a vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal.
Enjoy this beautiful city, and safe travels!

Our family of 8 did as Dave describes, staying near Piazzale Roma for convenience to the airport for early flights 2 days later. We walked there from the train station. We were divided between Hotel Olimpia and Hotel Arlecchino next door. They booked an early (3:30 am) taxi for my son’s family to get to the airport for their 6 am flight. 50€ for that but worth it for the low stress factor. Our room at Arlecchino was tiny but we had a view over a back canal. And we had easy access to the uncrowded back streets of Santa Croce and San Polo to reach Dorsoduro and Rialto areas.

In September 2022 we had just one night in Venice before flying out, and that time we stayed at the Marriott AC Hotel at Piazzale Roma. A nicer hotel, and more expensive, but we had points to burn.

We love Venice and have spent as long as a month there, as well as several stays of 5-7 nights. For that we rent an apartment in Dorsoduro or near Rialto Bridge. But for stays of 1-2 nights before an early flight out of Marco Polo airport, I now recommend the Piazzale Roma location.

[Full disclosure: we have sworn off flying out of VCE, after that 2022 trip. It is a zoo with all the cruise ship passengers and not fun. So now we move to Bologna or Milan for our last night and fly out of there}.

Taking a private water taxi from the airport to your hotel, especially if you haven't been to Venice before, may end up being a highlight of your trip. It was for our family - we could stand up in the beautiful wooden boat and look over the front, as we approached Venice. It was a memory we all still have - there is nothing like Venice. Although spendy, it's well worth it for four people and all your luggage - it's quick and so convenient.

Official water taxi site
https://www.motoscafivenezia.com/en/

Book it yourself in advance or book it on arrival at airport desk

Most hotels in Venice have “arrival” instructions on their websites
Search for that or let us know which hotel and we can give you more specific directions

Or ask hotel to book water taxi-which may cost you more than booking it yourself

The vaporetto (water bus) from the airport into Venice proper is called the

Alilaguna.

It runs on a set schedule. It's slow compared to a private boat.

As others have said, hotels generally don’t provide this service. They will however arrange a taxi pick up time for you if you ask them to. It’s €140 each way to/from the airport to your hotel in Venice.
