3 of us will be in Venice on September 12th and staying 2-3 nights before going on a cruise and we would like to be within walking distance to most of the sites. Could you recommend a hotel/motel/pensione/b&b please?

We enjoyed Pensione Guerrato when we were there a few years ago. I also saw someone posting about it today. They liked it too.

We stayed at Casa Rezzonico in the Dorsoduro last fall . Quiet , charming location just off the Campo St. Barnaba where Katharine Hepburn falls into the canal in the 1955 film " Summertime " . Matteo was a kind and charming host .

Hotel Al Codega near St. Marks. Great location. Wonderful accommodations, room location & breakfast. It was a Rick Steves recommendation. you will not be disapointed.
