Looking for a hotel in Venice for my son and his wife who will only be in Venice for one overnight...so they need to maximize location!

We recently enjoyed the Al Ponte Mocenigo, very near the San Stae vaporetto stop. It's not in the crowded center, and is very quiet, but its proximity to the vaporetto stop means it is very easy to get anywhere they are likely to want to go. https://alpontemocenigo.com/

And there's an excellent restaurant right across and down the road a bit from the hotel, Osteria Mocenigo

Thanks so much for your recommendation. We actually stayed there in 2018 and agree the location is perfect and agree with your restaurant suggestion. That is one place we have suggested they book and am hoping we will receive more suggestion for them to consider. Wish we were the ones traveling.
Happy travels to you!

Agree about Al Ponte Mocenigo. We've stayed there a few times, the hotel is beautiful inside, and the people who run it can't do enough for you. It's only one vaporetto stop from the train station, right next to the San Stae church on the Grand Canal. Very convenient whether you're walking around or using the vaporetto.

We had a wonderful stay at the Sina Palazzo Sant'Angelo Hotel. It is directly on the Grand Canal with it's own water taxi dock and the Sant'Angelo vaparetto stop only steps away. It was a splurge for us, but we had absolutely no regrets. We had a room with a balcony and the views were amazing.

We love Hotel Le Isole. It's about a 5 to 10 minute walk to St Marks Square. The San Zaccaria vaporetto stop is around the corner. It had a wonderful breakfast and many shops and restaurants in the area.

The Mocenigo also has a water door. If your kids want to take a water taxi from the airport, they can be dropped off at the water door, no walking!

Stayed here and the place was beautiful (original fresco ceilings in many of the rooms) and in a great location
Short walk to all the sights through the maze of small streets that is Venice but in it's own piazza so had it's own charm and was quiet at night.
Water taxi can get to the front of the piazza, so about 100 yards away.
