Hotel in Varenna

Doing a few nights in Varenna. Check the RS book but not finding much in my price range (350-450). Any ideas for us? Thx, Steve

When are you looking for dates? Places book up quickly so you might be too early or you might be too late.

Varenna is very small. You might expand your search to Bellagio and Menaggio - both reachable by upper lake ferry from Varenna and both with many more lodging options.

Good luck,

Not sure about price range, but we have stayed at Casa Du Lac three times - beautiful property! It was one of those hotels that we had to get back to! They also have an incredible terrace restaurant open to the public. https://www.casadulac.it/en

Steve, when I planned my trip to Lake Como, I figured we'd just do the walking tour in Bellagio but otherwise not spend much time. I thought it would be "snooty". We stayed in Varenna, and you should absolutely spend some time in Varenna, we did the RS walking tour, had amazing gelato and had dinner at Bar Il Molo where the food was good enough, but the view, WOW!

We went to Bellagio in the rain. I thought that's ok because I'm not going to love it, anyway. We loved it. Shop keepers and restaurant staff were so nice. We went in the RS recommended wine tasting bar (enoteca), absolutely soaked and freezing, and were greeted warmly. Staff took our raincoats and umbrellas and stored them and put us in a corner where it was warmer. The waiter patiently highlighted the wines of the region and explained the tasting.

We stayed in Bellagio the rest of the day and had a nice dinner at a moderately priced restaurant.

So, no worries about staying in Bellagio, and the ferry works great between the towns.

You didn't mention when you are traveling. We were in the area mid October when it was less busy (and more rainy)

Steve, here's a recent thread with mentions of how much hotel prices have increased for hotels in Varenna (and I would assume Bellagio although I could be wrong). There are several other locations around the lake mentioned in the thread that posters chose to take advantage of better accommodation prices.

As you don't mention when you'll be traveling, if it's SOON/high season, you're late in the game for booking.

I found a nice place close to Bellagio. What was left in Varenna seemed way over-priced and I think this is a better way to go. Loconda della Mariais the place.
