We are flying into Naples, and want to stay in Sorrento for a few days to do that area. What would be a good hotel to stay in? Not a Hilton, but a nice clean hotel. :)
Hi Arlene Sorrento is fanatastic. We stayed at Hotel Sorrento City and highly recommend it as a clean, well-located (afew blocks from everything youll need at train station and marina).

Great staff, good breakfast, front rooms are a little noisy from street traffic but that have nice balconies for sitting and observing the scene. Located next to a grocery store and just a short walk from the shopping/restaurant section. I can
t say enough good things about our visit there. Sorrento is perfect for day tripping and Hotel Sorrento City is perfect for that purpose. Mike DC
We stayed at the Hotel Mignon Mueble in Sept. 2008 and enjoyed it. Modestly decorated and furnished, spotlessly clean. Continental breakfast, free computer use, friendly staff. Maybe 10 minute walk from train station with luggage, then one minute to the main drag and all Sorrento. No ocean views, sorta tucked away among other buildings, but suited us to a T (not fancy guys). Our room had a small balcony that looked out into the high school, but as retired teachers it only added to our enjoyment (watching someone else work). Very easy from Sorrento to access Pompeii, other Amalfi sights.
Just went to Sorrento mid to late November, stayed at the Antiche Mura, close enough to the train station that you can walk to it, about a block from the main street in Sorrento. Very nice hotel, great rooms, excellent staff and service, wonderful breakfast, it is hard to beat. Go to Google type in the hotel name and check it out or go to Venere.com and read the reviews, this is how we found it.
We stayed at the RS recommended Ulisse Deluxe Hostel. http://www.ulissedeluxe.com/ It is a hostel in name only! A very nice hotel, excellent rooms and a nice walk from the town square. While you don't have an ocean view it is an excellent place to stay. And some advice, if you come by boat, take the bus ride up the hill! We did and it was worth the cost when we saw all the people that chose to walk and were struggling to get up the hill with luggage. And I use the word hill loosely!
Sorrento is beautiful, you'll love it! Try to see Positano, too.
give il nido a try, hard working staff , great food and views you'll remember. good luck :):)
Places in Sorrento can book quickly, so I'd suggest using the RS book as well as some others to find hotels. The real decision to make is whether to stay in town (often no view) or up on the hill (often with a view) a bus ride or lengthy walk from town. My preference is for staying in town because that makes it easy to catch the ferry's or buses, as well as convenience in in showering before dinner or taking part in the evening stroll and not spending the time out and back. Others may have a different preference
Arlene, The Italy Guidebook has good listings for Hotels in Sorrento. Depending on what type of Hotel you consider "good", you could have a look at Hotel Desiree, Hotel Tonnarella or Settimo Cielo. They're all somewhat in the same area, and a fairly easy walk to the station and the main part of town (although I'd suggest a Taxi if you're hauling luggage). Happy travels!
