For anyone who might be interested, I can recommend the hotel Il Chiostro del Carmine in Siena. It is a converted old convent, a lovely building, historic but no lift, lots of steps! It's in via Della Diana, not the cheapest in Siena but comfortable and well-situated, good breakfast and helpful staff. We had superb views from our window across roofs and into the Tuscan countryside.

Thanks for sharing that info, Margaret. There's also a link here where you can make it a little more official and more likely to end up in the RS book. If the place is already in there, then your feedback will make it more likely to stay in when they review the books each year.
