I have been looking for a hotel in Rome in the Campo de'Fiori area and emailed hotel smeraldo based on the rec in the rick steves book - they are booked. are there any other hotels in this area that are similar as far as price/type, etc. that i can look into?

Have actually been looking at hotels in the exact same locations. Fortunatley for me, Hotel Smeraldo has availability... However i understand they do not have non-smoking rooms which concerns me (dont want to smell bad for 5 days!!). What hotel did you book, was it at a similar rate as hotel smeraldo?
Check out www.cross-pollinate.com I have stayed in their properties many times and the last time was in a place 1 block from Campo de'Fiori. The people who run the site are An American family living in Rome. They also own the Beehive near Termini. What they offer are Bed and Breakfasts and apartments. Great accommodations. Give them a try!!!!
