Rick's tours often use Hotel Aberdeen, which is only about 10 minute walk from the train station in Rome. I've also stayed there privately. It's a great hotel and room rate includes a great breakfast.

We stayed at the Hotel Kennedy and was very good for the price. Gets good reviews on trip adviser. About 5 mins walk, with luggage to train station.

We have used Hotel Contilia, 3 star, 3 block south out the side of the station.

I stayed at Hotel Sonya, 10 min walk to train station. http://www.hotelsonya.it/en/ Decent enough rates considering it is Rome. There are also private residences in the building. Many stairs, old elevator was too scary for me. Fine breakfast, free internet, nice staff.

Warning: It's a very very long walk once you get in the train station to the airport train platform. You can purchase tickets online ahead of time at trenitalia.com - Leonardo Express, leaves every 30 minutes, first train is at 05:52 (if your flight leaves at 7 a.m., you may consider taking a cab, that will be cutting it a little bit close given the 30 minute train ride). I stayed at "Bubbles" a fifth-floor apartment divided into four rooms each with separate locked door. Shared bathroom. Minimal, but comfortable and double-paned windows kept out the street noise.

To inquire, contact "Fawlty Towers" a hotel/hostel a block farther away from the station.

Stayed at the Adler Hotel in March 2006. It was very nice, safe, clean, & near the train station.

They also had a very helpful staff with a/c & breakfast included.

We just returned from staying 9 nights at Gulliver's Place Bed and Breakfast. We were about a 5-10 minute walk from the Termini Station. It was an excellent place to stay, large rooms your own bathroom and free internet in the lobby. It was also very secure and I never felt unsafe. The breakfast in the morning was very filling, your choice of two cereals, and or fruit salad, juice, a large container of indvidual yogourt, then the workers make you two pieces of toast (one with cheesel melted on it) and a pastry. They will also make you any kind of coffee (have the cappucino it is awesome) or tea if you like. The owners Simon and Sara also provide a great map of the major tourist areas (all the people we were travelling with for a wedding and were staying elsewhere were jealous of our map). Simon and Sara also answered any questions we had and are always up for giving suggestions on things you might want to see or do. The accomondations are listed in Rick Steves Rome 2007.

We have stayed at the Best Western Hotel Universo- yes, I know, not very inventive- but it was right by the main Termini train station in Rome. It was very clean, good beds, had a safe car park for our rental car, and was just down the street from the Termini. I booked through Best Western, prices were not too bad. There was a great cafe across the street that had the best white truffle sauce! We only had about 3 weeks to plan this trip before we left, so it was a relief to find something so last minute!

We stayed at the hilton at the airport which is connected to the airport....if I remember right. You can take baggage carts into room...it is great as a perfect location......more expensive but we feel it is worth it for the convenience. Mairlee

just a word of caution; I hope your flight is at 9:30am or later because it can take 30 min or so to get to the airport, and once there lines can be long and slow.

As mentioned above, Hotel Adler would be a good choice as would Hotel Italia.

I would stay at Hotel Adler and take a cab. They have an arrangement with a cab that is prompt and at a set price that seemed reasonable.

We stayed near Termini, mostly because we an early flight to catch to London on our last day.

The Yes Hotel was brand new, sparkling clean and 2 blocks from the station. They might be offering deals, as it's still newer.

However, we ended up taking a cab to the airport, fearing the first train, even at 5:50a.m, wouldn't have gotten us there in time. Rome has a strict 45 euro flat rate for cab rides to the airport. Early on a Saturday, it took 25 minutes from Termini. Although, had we known we were going to take the cab, we wouldn't have needed to be near Termini!
