Hotel in Rome for 2 days

My head is spinning. I have been on the internet for many hours trying to select a hotel in Rome. I will be there in less than three weeks so most of the small less expensive hotels are booked. I am not sure which area to stay in but have selected Campo de' Fiori or Piazza Navona. Any recommendations?

Rick's picks, the ones in his books that all of us know, usually book up first because everyone has his books. I'd go on venere.com and take the first thing you can find. It's 3 weeks to go, it's Rome and it's summer. The best deals have been snapped up by those who booked ahead. At this point suggest you take what you can get, do it fast, and don't be too picky. www.venere.com would be a good place to find it.

We used Contilia in the Termini area and it is not in Rick book.

I agree with Kent, it's too late to be picky. Venere.com is a great way to book smaller hotels & B&B's. The Campo dei' Fiori & Piazza Navona is great but expensive. Your money will go farther is some of the other areas of historical center. Rome is a compact city so don't focus too much on which location within the center.

We just got back from Rome, and stayed at a nice hotel called Duca d'Alba (in the RS books, so may already be booked). Our rate was 170 Euro/night cash (credit card 190/nt). Its located very near the Cavour metro stop (5 mins) and is also close to some bus stops, so we could go anywhere we wanted.

It was very clean and updated, great staff, spoke English, nice big breakfast. We stayed on the 4th floor, which appeared to be more recently renovated than the other floors.

We stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen in April and found it convenient to everything, especially the train station. It was excellent. In the RS book.

We stayed at Hotel Italia, on a small side street just off Via Nationale. Very good location for walking to the major sites and very close to the bus/metro routes. Breakfast was good, hotel extremely clean and staff very helpful. Recommended by Rick Steves.

My brother just stayed at Duca D'Alba recently and enjoyed it very much and highly recommended it. 5 minutes to walk to the Colosseum and the rooms were described as very nice.

I just checked hotwire.com and found some pretty good prices a month and 2 months out. (I'm going in September and was trying to figure out when they start "dumping" them.)
