Hotel in Rome before departure?

Hi,
We are traveling back from Florence via train TO Rome for a flight home the next day at 12:25 pm

My question is should we stay near the train station when we return form Florence to get a late afternoon and evening in Rome. OR just stay near the airport (and assume we return evening and not do much). I'm with my 80 year old mom so we will be at a pretty leisurely pace and not killing ourselves to do anything. I know traffic is bad in Rome so we know would have to leave in the morning with tons of extra time.

If train station any recommendations for an awesome hotel near the train station for a last night?

I love a leisurely last evening in Rome. From any hotel you can get a taxi or car service to take you to the airport. 12:25 about the same time as my usual flight home - my ride usually picks me up around 8:30 and I arrive with plenty of time.

I'd stay in Rome- doesn't need to be near train station.
Have your hotel call for a taxi in the am. It doesn't take any longer than 30-45 min to get to FCO. Fixed rate 50 euros.

If you do prefer near train station Hotel Sonya is nice, less than 10 min walk from Termini

It is up to you, it really depends if you want to do something in the evening or not, although I don’t really like the area near the station too much. You should try to be at the airport by 9:30am to have plenty of time to spare. With heavy traffic a taxi will get you there in about 45 min, without traffic in about 30. In the morning traffic is not too bad getting out of the city center as you are going against the commute traffic.
