We are going to be in Rome overnight before our departure to the US and want to make it a special day/night. We are looking for a hotel that is not to far from the Rome Airport and hopefully will be near the Trevi Fountain or similar environment. Appreciate any suggestions and thoughts. Thanks
The Fiumicino airport is about a 45 minute drive from the Trevi Fountain. Our favorite hotel in Rome is a special splurge, the Villa Mangili www.hotelvillamangili.it. It's in the Villa Borghese area in a quiet neighborhood, within walking distance or a short cab ride to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. It's a small boutique hotel in a beautiful old villa, terrific buffet breakfast and extremely gracious and helpful concierges, but not cheap.
Another good option is one of the hotels around Termini. My daughter and I stayed at Hotel Oceania and enjoyed it. The morning of our flight we took the Da vinci express to the airport. Its about a 500 m walk from the hotel to the train station. fare is about 12 euro give or take.
Mecenante Palace by Termini was fabulous! Andf we got it through priceline for $240 american per night. This seemed to be a steal at the time we went. It is 4 stars and includes breakfast.
We also got really cheap rates in Venice through Priceline for the Molino Stuky Hilton. Very pleased.
Also $240 American and this one is 5 star.
Fran,
We stayed at Albergo del Senato. The location CAN'T be beat. It is about 10 steps from the Pantheon and walking distance to everything. It's the perfect location both day and night. Loved it.
we stayed at the hotel parlamento..nice family hotel..nice rooftop for a bottle of wine...clean rooms... great breakfast..very centrally located by the spanish steps trevi fountain and pantheon...you can walk to all.. we loved it
First trip to Rome we stayed by the Coliseum, great views. Second trip we were looking out over the Pantheon (which is not far from Trevi) The hotel reserved a taxi for us to the airport. Unless you stay at an airport hotel, you have to do some traveling in the morning. If you're at an airport hotel you will not be staying near Trevi Fountain or similar so you will be traveling after dinner to get back to the hotel. I vote for staying in the city and getting up early to get to the hote. Whichever you decide, have fun.
Thank you all for your suggestions. The Albergo De Senato and Nicolas Inn seem to be very popular.
Appreciate all your time to respond.
Safe travels to all,
Ciao,
Fran
