Hotel in Rome

We’ll be in Rome the first week in October. Any recommendations for a hotel near the historic center?

It's Jubilee, hotels will be more expensive and most are already sold out. Better book NOW. If you are an AAA member or a Costco Member - I'd use them at this point - they have great options for all budgets at a better rate than you can get on your own.

Search using Booking.com, filter by neighborhood and your preferences, read reviews, then consider booking directly with the hotel once you find a place you like.

Hotel Smeraldo near Campo di Fiore is excellent and often recommended here on the forum. We have stayed there twice. Very nice staff, great breakfast, perfect location.

I found a hotel months ago I wanted to check out but didn’t write it down. It was Hotel Smeraldo! Thank you! Booking now because of Jubilee

You will enjoy Hotel Smeraldo. I was glad I took a taxi my first time there as I don't know that I would have found it very easily without that. Once I was oriented it was easy to find my way around the neighborhood, but that first time in I would not have made it......

I stayed at Basilio 55 in 2022 and really liked it. It’s near Piazza Barberini and good walking distance to the historic center.

We stayed at the Oceania (near the Quirinale) the first three nights and the Lancelot (near the Cloiseum) on our last night in Italy. The Oceania was lovely, the staff friendly and helpful, the breakfasts simple and good, the cappucino terrific. Jet lagged the first night, they recommended neary Target, for dinner. Rick's review is unexciting, but our mussels, Italian meats and cheeses appetizers, pasta Amatriciana (guancale) entree were top shelf and the tiramisu was the best we've ever had. And my wife is Italian and makes the best! The waiter said it would be better than hers! Uh-oh!

The Lancelot is a friendly, communal place where guests gather in the small lounge/bar for cocktails then head to dinner together in the dining room for a delicious, prix fixe, home cooked (by the owner!) meal at tables for eight. Global strangers become friends at the end of the evening! What a concept! The room was very large and immaculate, with a plant-filled terrace over looking the courtyard.
