Hotel in Naples - Near Train Station or Other?

I'm taking the train from Rome to Naples at the end of October. Staying one night. Main purpose is to visit the Archaeological Museum on a Monday afternoon, and then taking the local train to Pompeii and Herculaneum the next day (Tuesday) and then back to Rome Tuesday night. Tried to book a room at Hotel Piazza Bellini but only have 2- to 3- night minimum available. Now rethinking where to stay especially since will be schlepping luggage and going to be in and out of Naples Centrale station numerous times. What would you do? Stay near the train station or somewhere like Chiaja Hotel de Charme? If it matters, I'm a solo female traveler.

The new train station area is clean but barren and isolated. We walked all the way from the Decumani Palace (one night) hotel to the station, (see Google Maps) but it's a long hike. You can take a cab if it's too far, download a copy of the fixed taxi rates to wave at the driver if there's a dispute. We found the rural American fear of street crime in Naples to be totally unfounded. We enjoyed the city.

We plan on staying at the Renaissance Naples Hotel Mediterraneo next year (mostly because we had Marriott points and it will be free).

From my research it looks like you can walk to the Archaeological Museum from the hotel. It's an easy train ride to Pompeii and Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius. Plus there's a bus (Alibus) that takes you from Naples Centrale Station to the hotel - so you won't have to take a taxi. The Alibus is about 4 Euros.

It's about $166/night.

I am a female solo traveler, too. I usually stay at a little B&B a few blocks from the station, but far more convenient is Starhotel Terminus, a business-type hotel across the street from Napoli Centrale. I paid well under €100 for a single with a very good breakfast.

The train station area is being updated, the underground shopping mall is expanding, there are several restaurants in the mall at street level.

Take the metro from the station to the Museo stop, very easy.

The hotel may be able to hold your luggage until it's time to catch your train; there is also a luggage storage place inside the train station (next to the police station), but the opening/closing times may not work for you.
