Hotel in Milan v. train to Venice?

We will be arriving at Malpensa at 3:15 PM (15:15). Is it better to spend the night in Milan and train to Venice in the morning or take the train directly to Venice that evening? We would be arriving in Venice around 20:30.

Personally, I'd opt for taking the train the day you arrive rather than staying in Milan. Another option would be to take the train to Verona--spend the night, see the city, and then go on to Venice the next day! Verona would be a smaller city to navigate, fun to walk around in, and it has some great restaurants.

Verona is one of our favorite cities in Italy! We stayed at Hotel Torcolo (in Rick's book.) It's a good budget option.

I would choose a hotel in Verona and reserve your room before you go. I've had trouble finding a convenient and affordable hotel in Verona on the fly.

Check the trenitalia website for train schedules. If possible I would try to go on to Venice if possible. You can re4st on the train, and be in Venice for the next day. I would have a hotel booked for Venice if I was going to arrive late. try to find something close to a vaporetto stop. Locanda al leon was nice, close to San Marco, and reasonable. 1 block from the San Zach stop. Good luck, and enjoy. Jeff

I would probably train all the way to Venice. We, too, enjoyed our time spent in Verona but always try to minimize one night stays as you can waste a lot of time checking in and out. Buon Viaggio!
