Can someone please suggest a good inexpensive(?) hotel in Milan that is fairly close to the airport. I have a 9:45 flight out of Milan (to Philadelphia) in September. I know i'll want minimum hassle in the morning trying to get to the airport so i won't want to deal with long trips.
It's hard to guess what might be "inexpensive" to you, but -
The Hotel Cervo is literally between Terminals 1 and 2 at Malpensa and yet not too noisy. They have a shuttle to pick you up at the airport when you arrive from Milan and then take you back in the morning to meet your flight. You can Google for their website. A more expensive option close by is the First Hotel.
With a 9:45 flight, though, you have time to stay in Milan and catch the train or bus out in the morning.
Thanks Doug. How long does it normally take to go from the downtown area of Milan to the airport?
By bus from the Central train station it's about 50 minutes.
By train from Cordona station it's about 40 minutes.
Flight check in went very slowly when we were there last spring. I would be very reluctant to not stay near Malpensa. We had reservations at Hotel Cervo and upon arrival (after paying for their shuttle) we were informed they had lost our reservation--not a room left.. It was ten thirty at night. My husband was beyond angry but the clerk managed to get us a room at Hotel Cardano which included a FREE shuttle to their hotel and then to the airport(again free) next am. It was recently redone, new & large bed, nice bathroom, great breakfast, and a very nice staff. I highly recommend it. And, very important, it was quiet.
Lauri--I tried to send you a message but don't know if it went through. You can take a bus from Milan (central) train station to Malpensa. Call Hotel Cardano for shuttle service when you get to Malpensa--unless you happen to see one right there--they run frequently. Do not be tempted to accept an expensive taxi ride. You will get offers. It takes about 50 minutes by bus and the bus will drop you off at an area where shuttles pick up. A word of warning: the bus service to ap does not run very late. I think we caught the last one (lucky for us) at 9:30 pm or so.
You didn't say, but everyone is assuming you are flying out of Malpensa. If so, Hotel Cervo is probably fine and it is close to Malpensa airport. If you are flying out of Linate, you might want to stay somewhere closer. I can't tell you where to stay to be closer to the Linate airport, but I can certainly tell you where to steer clear of - Hotel Santa Marta. It was awful!!! I shudder just thinking of my stay there in October 2006. Ugh. And it is still in Rick's book. His description is way off the mark.
