We are looking for a hotel near the central train station in Milan for a three night stay in October. Moderate price for two.
Hi--we stayed at the Hotel Berna for 3 nights last March. It is just a couple of blocks from the train station and was great! We were lucky because it was off season and so got a good price on the room, so, it could be moderately priced at the time you want to go. The breakfast is amazing--most everything you could want and more.
Thanks: That happens to be one of the hotels I'm looking at. I have seen mixed reviews. It really helps to know you had a good experience.

We've been watching this site for two months for comments about Milan--some positive remarks about Berna. We would be interested in your choice when you make it. We end "Village Italy" in Oct. and will stay a few days in Milan before flying back to SLO. Thank you

Hi Bruce,
We stayed at Hotel Berna (http://www.hotelberna.com/) in Milan and loved it. Seriously a great deal and only a few blocks from the main train station. The breakfast there was HUGE and probably the best we had in Italy. We paid approx $127US which I thought was a good deal for a night. It was clean and easy to find. They also had a certain amount of time free internet which was fun to be able to check e-mail. The best part was they have a FREE mini bar. It was stocked with soda, juice, water, sparkling water. So we stocked our bags with everything for our trip. I had never seen anything like that before so was very neat. The people that work there were also very friendly and helpful in pointing out sights and directions. Check them out.
Have a great trip!
I also stayed at the Hotel Berna at the end of my Village Italy trip in 2008. It was the perfect location to public transportation (including the shuttle back to the airport.)
I was there 2 nights and thought it was an excellent place to stay. If I ever go back to Milan I will stay there again. Nice clean hotel, great staff....
Only about 2 blocks from the Centrale Train Station, lots of restaurants near by.
Each year when I return to Italy I stay at the Hotel Berna and have always been very satisfied with the property. The location is convenient to the station and far enough away to be in a quiet section. Their breakfast buffett is probably the best in Italy. I really like the place.
You should try using venere.com and tripadvisor.com to research the area or for hotels.
Buon viaggio,
RB
I have also been considering Hotel Berna (also for October!), but was a bit turned off by recent bad reviews on Trip Advisor. If anyone stays there in the near future, I hope you'll post your opinion. Thanks!
