Hotel in Langhe 2 nights - Alba or Asti

Hi.

My wife and I (Americans, late 50s, experienced travelers and wine explorers) are coming from Chamonix (5 nights) via Turin (one night) to Langhe (two nights) then Monferrato (Tenuta Santa Caterina - four nights) for a family wedding. We will have a car.

We are looking for a good Langhe base for the two nights. We will have a car and can get to tours or wineries. The question is more - what is better for evening dinners and walking back to the hotel. Or, are taxis easy at night?

We stayed in La Morra two years ago and that was perfect for one night (nice place, good food in town, walkable, amazing view).

Alba or Asti? Or, another nearby.

We would love to hear any opinions or experiences.

Thanks,
John

Alba is more quaint, smaller and likely easier. That said, I did enjoy a night in Asti en route to Alba several years ago. I'd let the accommodations be the deciding factor.
Neive looked really appealing as well.

we stayed in annuziatta (right outside of la morra) last june for 3 nights and can't wait to return. also consider daniella maracine, a local somallier, for hire. we hired her for 2 days and she took us around and made winerty appointments for us.
