Hello and thank you for all the great advice! My husband and I bid on and "won" 6 nights in Cortona starting June 3, 25. We will forego Rome this trip to avoid Jubilation crowds, and focus on Tuscany. We arrive June 2nd at 6pm to FLR, will stay the night somewhere TBD, then will drive (we have a car rented) to Cortona on the 3rd with a 3pm check in. We have a couple of questions:
1a) Where is a good place to stay that first night in FLR as we would either do a brief recon of Florence on the 3rd before we head to Cortona, or we would leave earlier and find something to see along the way to Cortona to stop and see (we will do a day trip from Cortona to FLR a few days later then two nights at the end in FLR),
1b) What would you recommend seeing between FLR and Cortona if we just head straight out in the AM on the 3rd?
2) We plan to do multiple day trips from our Cortona home base (Siena by car, Florence by train, somewhere else by car), then drive to Porto Stefano (leave the car there) and ferry to Giglio for a few days on the coast. We are considering adding in a 1-night stay in Saturnia between our Cortona and Giglio stays. Any thoughts on a place to stay at the hot springs that is a good option for just one night? Any thoughts on staying there just one night? Check in at the hotel on Giglio is 3pm.
From Giglio we head back to FLR to drop the car and stay two nights in the city, departing noon on the 14th.
3) Who does the best steak in Florence? mmmmm!
Super excited!
Thank you!
