We are going to be coming back from Lerici late at night before we fly out. I am thinking that I want to get a hotel close to the airport, as we will hardly be there to enjoy the hotel room (as we will be spending most of the day before we fly out in Lerici) and I just want a place to crash before we leave for the airport at I'm assuming 4:30 am for our 7 am flight out. Any recommendations, or should I just get a room "in town"?

The Amerigo Vespucci airport in Florence doesn't even open until 5:00am. Check-in counters open at 5:30am. Says so on their website. http://www.aeroporto.firenze.it/EN/index.php?percorso=contents&jk=33&curr=0 The airport is not that large so you won't need more than an hour for check-in. There's a fairly inexpensive Hotel Ibis Firenze Nord just north of the airport.
