Hotel in Florence

My husband has booked the Hotel Anglo Americano, which has reviews ranging from 'terrible - don't stay there' (!) to 'charming and good stay for the price'. Anyone have experience with this hotel on Via Giuseppe Girabaldi? Thanks-

I find myself going round in circles reading the reviews, whether it be on Tripadvisor, Amazon etc. The only way to get any help is to try and filter out the facts, like does it have air conditioning YES or NO. The amount of time I have wasted browsing reviews, I think I would have been better just buying a guide book sometimes. I have been to the NH Anglo American hotel twice and my only complaint would be that the staff were a bit snooty. On both occasions. However it is a grand hotel and a beautiful building and perhaps the staff are no different to those in many such hotels.
The nearby Hotel Albion is more friendly and charming in a less ostentatious manner. Otherwise the Hotel Relais Tiffany in Florence would be worth considering.

You can check this hotel at booking.com where it has pretty good reviews. In 2009 we stayed at Hotel Bretagna in Florence, which we can recommend. It's on the Arno near Ponte Trinita and with views of Pone Vecchio. You can also check it at booking.com.

I've never heard of the place so I had a look at TA. Now I'm confused - I don't see the hotel you speak about in Florence. I find a really awful place in Rome with the same name. If its actually the one in Rome, when I looked at the graph on the left and saw that over 1/3 of all the many reviews are "terrible" and 2/3 are bottom half I wouldn't look any further.

Thanks to all of you - I think Nigel may be onto something (and I haven't had time to recheck yet) - I may have been reading reviews for the other hotel in Rome....
