Hotel in Florence

Hi,
My friend and I (two healthy women in our 60's) will be flying into Florence for 4 nights, Aug. 26 - Aug 29 and traveling to Cinque Terre on 8/30. We're thinking probably the same hotel the 4 nights and perhaps do day trips from there. We'll also need a hotel in CT. We need to be in Biasca Switzerland on Aug 3. Perhaps CT for 3 nights then onto Switzerland a day early? Any hotel suggestions (under $80 per night) would be welcome or itinerary comments also welcome. Thanks, diane

Is your $80 (60 euros) budget per person per night? or per room per night? If the latter, you will probably need to up your budget a bit.
Leaving for Biasca on Sept. 3rd?

As for Florence I can recommend 3 options, the first two around the corner from each other near the Duomo:

  • The Academy hostel - they offer two private double rooms, one with an ensuite and twin beds. It books out early. I've stayed there twice in their single room and really like it. It's the best value for the money in the center of the city, IMO.

= B&B Residenza dei Pucci.

  • One of the cheaper studios offered by Acacia Your Home In Florence.

Right now the Archi Rossi Hostel in Florence has a twin room (if you're sharing) for €67 in the annexe (the better rooms). I always stay there. Breakfast is lousy, but at that price . . . It's got AC (a must in August) and a strictly enforced quiet policy from 11 to 7, only a 5 minute walk from the train station and another 7 minutes to the Duomo. Book directly through their website - http://www.hostelarchirossi.com/

Check Hotel Medici, they have small rooms and not a great breakfast but there's an elevator and a rooftop terrace that looks out on the Duomo and the piazza. It's a couple of streets away from the Duomo. I haven't checked prices lately but two years ago I paid €40 for a single w/bath and breakfast.
