We were recently in Florence with a group of friends and had a wonderful stay at Il Salotto di Firenze. It is a bed and breakfast that is located on the 2nd floor of a grand building right off the Piazza Duomo. It has six rooms (five doubles and a single) We took all of the doubles for the five couples in our group. We were there on a holiday, the feast day of Florence's patron saint, yet the rooms were very reasonably priced. The smallest double was 119 Euro per night. One room was 129 Euro. Two were 149 each. The room that had a terrace was 159 Euro. We did reserve well in advance, since we needed so many rooms. All rooms were clean and spacious with good air conditioning, very comfortable beds, shutters that blocked out street noise. Breakfast was included in the price, and there were many nice food selections, far better than the typical hotel breakfast. During the day, the breakfast room was stocked with snacks and beverages for us. The staff here were fantastic. Alessandro provided a lot of advance help to me as we were planning for our stay in Florence. In response to my emailed question about where we might try to reserve a table for 10 for dinner on the feast day of San Giovanni, he made some wonderful suggestions, and after we'd picked, made the reservation for us. The main staff person on duty during our stay was Sergio. He stored our luggage for us beginning at 8:30 a.m. even though check in time wasn't until afternoon. When we expressed an interest in going up to San Miniato al Monte, Sergio helped us figure out which bus to use and where to catch it. It was clear that no request was too big, or too small, for Alessandro and Sergio. They did all they could to ensure that we would have a wonderful stay. I loved it that early in the morning, I was able to step outside and be right in the Duomo piazza, where I could photograph those beautiful buildings before any other tourists were there. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if we ever return to Florence.

I don't know what your idea of reasonable is, but I stayed at Hotel Arcadia near the train station last November and found it to be excellent value. The staff were very nice too!

We have been here 6x and love Florence! Stayed 2x at Hotel Accademia on Via Faenza, an easy walk from the train station, and a few steps from the Medici Chapels. Was very nice with a good breakfast. Can't remember what we paid but was reasonable. www.hotelaccademiafirenze.com 2x have rented lovely apartments for 5 nights each (but I think can be rented for shorter stays too) and 2x we daytripped to Florence from our agriturismi near San G. My husband doesn't mind driving with a gps but you must be careful re. ztl's. Have a great trip!

We stayed at the Hotel California on and RS tour.
Roberto mentions it above..... location is perfect, wonderful rooftop terrace to enjoy a nice glass of wine after "touring" all day.
It is only a couple blocks from the Duomo on a quiet street.

Another vote for Hotel California. Location is great. Within walking distance to everything. Would stay there again without any second thoughts.
