has anyone stayed/heard anything about hotel tiber? we're looking for a place to stay night before return flight to states. thanks.
You probably can get the best reviews on www.tripadvisor.com. The hotels out there serve a very useful purpose but they know why you are there. One night and an early taxi or shuttle to the airport. One thought is to have nice dinner on your last night in Rome and stay in Rome for your last night. Early flights out of FCO are very common. The hotels in Rome have great experience in having a taxi at the hotel as early as you want for the trip to FCO. Taxi fare is fixed. Our neighbors just got back from Rome and their taxi fare to the airport was 50Euro. Check with your Rome hotel to see if this is something they do. Again, quite common.
RonInRome says: "On many travel sites, this seems to be one of the most frequently asked questions. Many travelers ask the question differently. Most often it's phrased as, "I have an early morning flight from FCO and would like to know the best Airport Hotel to stay at – Can you make a recommendation?" Go here: Getting to FCO in the morning for his take on it.
Hi Ena, We toured Italy independently for 6 weeks in April/May/12. Our last stop after 10 days in Sicily was Palermo. From there we flew directly to FCO, overnighted at the BnB Domus Lina in Fuimicino. We were exhausted after so many weeks travelling and didn't want the busyness of downtown Roma, just a place to relax the night before our flight home. We booked on Booking.com and absolutely loved our room , breakfast, kind staff and the canalside location. Our airport pickup was arraged by the hotel as well as transportation back to FCO the next morning. It was a great stay, wandered the town, watched the sunset and were glad that we had done it this way. Hope this helps, Sherry
I am flying to Rome later this month arriving around 10 am, and flying to Athens the next morning (and back to Rome a week later). I was originally going to stay in Rome but was concerned about getting out to the airport for my fight so decided to look for something a bit different. I found the Hotel Tiber and read the reviews most of which were positive on Tripadvisor and other sites. I liked the fact it was a small town, on the coast (kinda like where I live!) and well situated for the airport the next morning (and they have a shuttle to airport). ONly snag is that the shuttle doesn't pick up at the airport until mid-afternoon, so will need to take a taxi. The hotel is very new (if you look on Street View/Google Earth you will see it was still being built!), it has a restaurant and there are pizza places and restaurants in the vicinity. Area does look a bit industrial (fishing boats, customs house, pilots office etc) but that means it will be relatively quiet in the evening.
Should have explained that when I get back to Rome from Greece I will join RS's 7 Days in Rome group so will be spending plenty of time in Rome!
Villa rosita! I had to return home early ....the owner, Frederico, picked me up after my group dropped me off at the airport....he shuttled me back and forth a total of 4 times for free between the b and b and the train station. He made me breakfast and basically took care of me. the b and b is about 10 short minutes from the airport in an unremarkable area...but the rooms are big, cool, free wifi, very clean and very reasonable
We ere pleased with Hotel La Scaletta in Ostia (Lungomare Paolo Toscanelli 130, 00121 Lido di Ostia). Modest, clean, pleasant and the staff was helpful. We were able to check in early. It is right across the beach and there is a good restaurant next door. We stayed there the day we arrived in Rome because we had an early flight out the next morning. We had always wanted to see the coastline near Rome as well as the ruins in Ostia. It was well worth it. The taxi ride to the airport the next morning was about 10-15 minutes, the hotel clerk arranged it for us. We found it on booking.com.
