In 2006 we stayed at Hotel Il Faro, a quaint hotel right on Marina Piccolo in Sorrento. We loved it! Rick recommended it then, but it no longer appears as a recommendation in the 2016 Italy travel guide. Anyone know why? Our windows opened right onto the Mediterranean and we could walk 200 feet to catch the ferry to Capri. We're headed back to Sorrento again but would hate to book Hotel Il Faro again if Rick doesn't recommend it.
Overall the reviews on booking.com from people who have stayed there recently are pretty ordinary.
There are lots of great hotels in Italy, though, that are not in Rick's book. So the fact a hotel is not in his book is, of itself, meaningless.
Booking.com reviews on this hotel seem to indicate it has not been adequately renewed over the years, and that there is a general problem with wifi.
There must be a very gd reason to have been taken off list.

Daniel,
There could be a lot of reasons why the hotel was removed from the RS guidebook. Perhaps it doesn't meet their current standards for hotel listings? The fact that it was removed doesn't necessarily mean it's a "bad" hotel. I had a quick look at Trip Advisor and the ratings still appear to be generally favourable.
