Hotel Ideale Assisi wants booking through insecure website

I have been trying to book a hotel in Assisi for late March, and found that the recommended hotels are full for that date--so far all but the Hotel Ideale. Unusually, its website has you send a request for booking, they reply with an email with a link to a secure website, which turns out not to be secure. So I called them on the phone, but could not reach someone who spoke English, and the call failed. I emailed them back for suggestions. So this is a minor adventure. Has anyone else gone through this? It looks as though I could and perhaps should use an indirect booking, such as booking.com.

I use booking.com a lot, they have been very good with customer service as well as having a good list of accommodations.

Another vote for booking.com; easy to use, no language barriers and you can make your reservations 24/7 versus deal with time differences. We haven't had any issues with it so far.

The only caution is to read the print carefully? You often have a choice of booking with free cancellation (within a certain time period) or not. Booking without the cancellation option - which is usually the least expensive rate - means exactly that: if you cancel, you are out the $$. Being we do out bookings so far in advance of a trip, I almost always choose the free cancellation option even if the tariffs are a bit higher.

I booked there in 2015 through Booking.com with no problems.

We enjoyed our stay and I would recommend them. It's a family operation and only a few family members speak English, and whether or not they are available at any given time is kind of hit or miss.
