Hotel Golden in Rome; hotels in Venice and Florence

My daughter and I will be traveling to Italy in July for her college graduation. Hotel Golden received a high rating on Tripadvisor. Would that be a good hotel for 5 days in Rome?

We are also traveling to Venice and Florence and would appreciate hotel recommendations at those locations.

Thanks,
Pam

It's an exceptionally rated hotel. However, it's a little removed the historic center which is located nearer to the Pantheon and Camp dei Fiori. It's your trip. You'll have to decide what you want.

When choosing your Venice hotel make sure it's on Venice Island...not on the mainland and not on the Lido and not on Guidecca Island. Choose a hotel with Air Conditioning by all means. There are a myriad of hotels and B&Bs in Venice. Look on TripAdvisor just like you did for Rome. That's a good start.

I sure like the two hotels we stayed in on our RS tour. We stayed at the Hotel California in Florence and the Hotel Mercurio in Venice. If I return to those cities, I would stay there again. Their locations were great and the rooms were very quiet.

I like apartments for Rome (near Piazza Navona) and Florence (across the Arno). Try VRBO and be specific about locations and little extras (like elevator, air conditioning). In Venice I only stay at the Hotel Ala. Perfect location, amazing owners/staff, beautiful rooms. You don't give dates but if you are in Venice on the 3rd weekend of July you're in time for the feast of the Redentore. Best fireworks ever on Saturday night! Great fun and oh so Venetian!! Darn, my schedule doesn't allow me to get there until the day after! First time in years that I'll miss the fireworks. Enjoy them for me please?

Hotel California in Florence is quite nice and is within walking distance to everything. Pensione Guerrato in Venice is a bit quaint, but the location is great and we always stay there. In Rome we have stayed at Hotel Fontanella Borghese many times and have always been pleased. While it is not "luxury", it is very nice and the location is great. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can walk to Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Nuvona, even Vatican city. Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard as rooms overlooking the side street can get noisy. They also have a sister hotel closer to the Pantheon called Hotel Due Torri. The web site is www.fontanellaborghese.com. Check their web sites and the reviews on TA and see what you think. Would not hesitate to stay in any of those hotels again.

I like hotel Della Torre Argentina in Rome for location. Venice - we stayed in Hotel Tivoli in San Polo neighborhood, near Frari Church. This is a clean, "bare bones" hotel in a nice area with a basic breakfast included. No elevator and must lug your stuff up staircase. Near decent restaurants that are better priced for Venice. My favorite - Impronta Cafe. Florence - we really liked Hotel Pendini. great Location and lovely rooms and breakfast room.
