Has anyone stayed in the "attic" room at hotel Gerrato in Venice. That is what has been offered to me but I'm wondering what it's like! Thanks! Also, any other great inexpensive hotels/B&Bs in Venice. Also the Tuscany area! Thank you--oh, needs to have a private bath :)
maria, I assume you're referring to Pensione Guerrato??? I can't offer any comments on "the attic room", but you might have a look at the Italy Guidebook to get a good overview of lodgings in Venice in various price ranges. You'll need to be more specific with regard to "the Tuscany area". That's a fairly large area that covers some large cities (ie: Florence) so it would help to know which places you'll be visiting in Tuscany.
I don't know about that specific room, but Pensione Guerrato is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. But the attic will be up several flights of stairs, and there's no elevator. As for private baths, the majority of hotels and B&Bs in Italy these days include a private bath. It gets harder each year to find a place without one (for those who are trying to save money). Have you bought the RS Italy book yet? It's loaded with info on places to stay in Tuscany, for all price ranges. Good luck.
Marla We stayed there last November. It was a great location just above the Rialto Market place. It wasn't noisy at all. The rooms are basic with a small bathroom and no TV. I didn't care I was in Venice. When you get the directions from them when they say get off the vapareto turn right go down two streets. They mean lanes. The streets are not like ours.
It was so central to everything. Don't worry about the room your just there to sleep. Decent continental breakfast too.
THank you to all. I do have Rick's book and have read a ton of reviews but I picked up that some rooms at Pension Gerrato were not too nice. I was afraid the attic might be hot and subpar. I have reservations at the Comfort Inn Diana right now but would like to save a bit of money so was thinking of changing. Sorry my question about the Tuscany area was much too generalyou are quite rightI'm learning!!! We want to get off the beaten path. . .into the hill towns. Wondering about Lucca and Sienna but wondered if Sienna might be too large . We'd like to see some "real" Tuscany instead of all touristy stuff. First trip to this areawe have 12 days, limited budget and want to make the most of it. Love suggestions!!!!!
