Hotel Galileo or Hotel Torre Guelfa in Florence

We are trying to decide between these two hotels in June. There is a price difference I know, but is one better than the other? Why or why not.

Have not stayed in either so really can't comment. Neither got "great" reviews on Trip Advisor. That said, I can comment on the Casa Rovai B&B and the Accademia Hotel as I stayed in both this past December. LOVED everything about Casa Rovai and the Accademia where the RS 7 Day tour of Florence stayed was very nice. You might consider either of these spots.

We stayed at Torre Guelfa with the RS Florence tour. It was decent, but I think it's overpriced. I haven't been to Galileo, so can't offer a comparison but a few points about TG.

1) Breakfast is decent, not spectacular. They consistently had some yogurt, pastries, fruit, really sour orange juice, and would bring you a cappuchino or tea.

2) The view from the tower is lovely, but there isn't much (or any) view from the room. Ours was also right over the street, and picked up a bit of traffic noise at night.

3) Location is very close to the Ponte Vecchio. It was pretty easy to walk around to everything we wanted to see.

4) The rooms are reasonably clean and in decent shape, considering the age of the building, but they aren't what I would call high-end. The toilets have a strangely shaped/wide seat which I found rather uncomfortable. The shower is quite good though, and doesn't have the high side to climb over like most hotels I've stayed at in Italy.

5) They have an elevator and a secure entrance. The door can be a little tricky to figure out.

6) It was November when we were there, but they had the heat on quite high, especially in the hallways it could be quite uncomfortably warm. You'll be there in June so I can't imagine they'll have the heat on at that point.

So overall: it was fine. The staff is pretty accomodating, though they didn't do anything exceptional. I'd stay there again, if the price were lower.

Thanks. It looks like we are going to go with Casci Hotel. Location, Service and Value all seemed to put this place ahead of the pack.
Thanks again.

We stayed at the Galileo about 4 years ago. (on via Nazionale, just in case I'm thinking of a different one than you)

We liked it a lot. The room was large, very big bathroom. Decent breakfast and what for us is a terrific location. Close enough to walk to the station--and everything else we wanted to see in our 4 days in Florence.

Accomadating staff also.

We'd stay there again.

Best regards,

Jeffrey
