We had the misfortune of staying at the Hotel Galileo in Florence. The hotel is well located near the train station and was recommended in the Rick Steves guidebook. Like many Italian hotels, the walls of the rooms were very thin and we could hear every conversation on our floor. In addition, the hotel rooms had a electronic card entry system, typical in modern hotels but with a distinct difference. When the key card was tapped on the door panel, the door panel buzzed VERY VERY loudly. This meant that everytime a door was opened anywhere near your room, you were awakened. We did't get any sleep. We wondered why the hotel staff kept pressing for prepayment despite having a reservation which specified no prepayment required. I suspect many people checked out after one night. Anyone else have the same experience?
