Hotel easily accessible to Train Station and Airport

We will be returning to Rome for one night before we leave for home. We will be arriving via train from Trevi, spending one night then leaving from FCO. I would appreciate any recommendations for hotels (I prefer more traditional hotels rather than apartments, etc.). I would like to be able to walk around the afternoon/evening before we leave. Maybe find a nice restaurant for our last dinner in Rome and maybe a little shopping for any forgotten gifts for folks back home. As always, I thank you!!

We enjoyed the Hotel Aberdeen, located a short walk from Termini train station.

We prefer Hotel Sonya, just across from the Opera House and a little closer to the train station than Aberdeen. But have stayed in Aberdeen and it is a good choice. There are a number of good restaurants in the area depending on your preference for pizza or white table cloth.

Thank you all! Unfortunately, Hotel Nord Nuovo Rome and Hotel Sonya are over $400 a night on our date (would love to try it but my wallet is sobbing ;)

I would also recommend either Hotel Aberdeen or Hotel Sonya, however I understand that Sonya is over your budget. Both hotels are in the Termini area so transportation from there to FCO is very easy, either via the Leonardo Express or other transportation.

I'd suggest having a look at the RS Italy guidebook as there are many good, reliable hotels listed in the book. You may find a vacancy at another one that's within your budget.

Just returned from two weeks in Italy. Stayed four of my last five nights in Rome at the Hotel Aberdeen and received a 15% Rick Steves discount. Friendly and accommodating staff and very nice breakfast included. Five minutes from the metro and about an 800 yard walk from the train station. If you like opera St. Paul's Within the Wall is right around the corner. The first English speaking Episcopal church within the Rome wall, has it opera 3-4 nights a week including a concert of 16 famous arias from 12 different operas. This hotel is within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona to name a few, and a five minute metro ride from the Colosseum and Forum. Also, a 10 minute walk from the hotel is Michelangelo's incredible Moses in a church called St. Peter In Chains, a beautiful church inside you would not go into if you were just walking by it. There are several small but nice restaurants within 10 minutes of the hotel. Sorry you're not there longer.

On another note, if you are flying out of FCO what time is your flight? The Leonardo Express took about 35 minutes from Termini and there was a lot of walking once you get off the train to get into the terminal and security, so allow at least an 1 1/2 hours for this from the hotel. Buy your ticket to the airport when you arrive at Termini so you don't have to bother with the ticket machines the next day. They are easy to use but were quite crowded in the morning I left. I bought mine the day before and walked right past the lines at the machines. If your flight is early, say before noon, you might consider staying at the Hilton Rome Airport if not out of your budget. You leave there to a long concourse and walk 10-12 minutes to the check in area (be there two hours before your flight), so the time it saved me was worth the extra cost. If your trip is far enough out you can book an advanced payment room on Hilton.com and save some money, which I did. They have a nice restaurant (or you could eat in Rome before you go there) and it made for a no stress departure for me.... except that our flight was cancelled for maintenance reasons (they couldn't get #2 engine to start) and we spent another night in the Hilton at United's expense. As for seeing Rome, if you want to stay at the Hilton you can check your bags at the Termini Station when you arrive there and use the day to explore the city, then pick up your bags when you're ready to head to FCO. The Metro stop is just out front of Termini and is great for getting around Rome, but it does NOT go to the airport. Have a great trip.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! To all of you! I made reservations at Hotel Aberdeen at first. It looked great.

You were right, Princess Pupule. I accidently missed the wrong dates.

Jim, your post was soooo heIpful. I was immediately drawn to the idea of the Hilton, but was torn when I saw how expensive it was. Providence stepped in when I realized my BFF was a Hilton Honors member. I would be able to get a lower price. Then she told me that she had points! So, we were able to pay for it with her points. It will be a bit inconvenient the night before if we want to go into Rome for our last dinner, but it is such a relief not to have to worry about train schedules the morning of our flight.
Again, thank you all for all of your wonderful help and brilliant ideas. I will save all the hotel suggestions for my next trip to Rome someday!!!

"It will be a bit inconvenient the night before if we want to go into Rome for our last dinner,"

At least when I stayed there in 2014, the Hilton at Rome airport (the one connected directly to the terminal via a walkway, not the less expensive Hilton Garden Inn) had a free bus to the center of Rome, leaving the hotel on even hours (2, 4, 6, etc) and returning from the center to the hotel on odd hours. We had a 7:30 PM dinner reservation, and the 6 PM bus worked well for this. Returning to the hotel, the 9 PM bus was too early (we would have had to rush through dinner) and we didn't want to wait for the 11 PM bus, so we took a taxi. At that hour, it was about 35 minutes.
