I'm curious if anyone has experience with booking this hotel? I've been asked to pay 50% y wire transfer. It looks ok, but if someone knows this is how hotel duomo secures rooms I would feel better. I've been having a hard time findinga nice size room private bathroom this second weekend in september, is there some sort of event?
We stayed at Hotel Duomo a few years ago and I cannot recommend it. We were not asked to pay in the manner they are asking of you to secure a room. They told us we could park briefly in front of the hotel to unload luggage but failed to mention which porto to enter (there are seven) and we had a nightmare of a drive through Siena. Our room was very noisy which was not expected since it overlooked a narrow street but partying went on all night in the street. It was late May and very hot and we were told AC would not be turned on until it got really hot in July. It was not worth the price. We met people who were staying in a convent and they said it overlooked the countryside and was very quiet-and about half the rate of HD.
I would like agree with everything Susan says above. We stayed there last Feb. There were teenagers roaming the hall until at least 3 AM. The rooms were small and dark. The location was convenient to the Doumo and city center but this did not make up for the lost night of sleep. We arrived and left by taxi but I would not recommend driving in Siena. We were not asked to pay in advance but we were there in Feb which I thought would be a quiet time of year.
If you are going to Orvieto I would highly recommend the Hotel Doumo there- not a chain as far as I know.
Thanks to you both, I have cancelled the reservation and will keep looking. I am glad to hear about orvieto's hotel duomo because I do have reservations there.
But I do recommend the restaurant Nonna Gina right in that area. The best pasta with ragu (meat sauce) I have ever eaten! :0(
Richard was smart to avoid driving in Siena. I would guess that ZTL zones would apply throughout Siena now-streets were full of pedestrians and this was before GPS. There is no problem parking outside the walls. There is a highly recommended restaurant, Cano e Gato but reservations are required well in advance.Enjoy your trip-you will love Orvieto.
Thanks for the restaurant recommendations. I booked with Palazzo Ravizzo, I was putting off staying there due to $ , but it is exactly what I was looking for. If there are anymore restaurant recommendations from vernazza to venice please post, we are traveling south to north for a month and we r all about food wine & prosecco.
