Hotel Demetra Capitolina, Termini, Rome

Hi :)

This is yet another 'Solo Female Staying in Termini: Will I be Safe?' - style questions so I apologise for being repetitive but I am particularly focused on opinions/experiences on the above hotel.

I recently travelled solo to Madrid and had a terrible and violent experience. For this reason, I'm extra cautious about planning my next solo trip. I've read balanced reviews/opinions on solo females staying in Termini so I'm unsure whether to proceed with my booking or not.

The hotel is located on Via Principe Amedeo. I've had a little virtual stroll around and it is surrounded by eateries and across the road from a large hotel so this all looks quite promising. I will be staying in Rome for 3 nights at the end of July and plan to use the accommodation as a base to explore. I will be travelling to Termini from the airport too, so again, this seems fairly well located.

Do you think this looks like a safe enough bet for a solo female? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

I have never stayed there, but I find the Campo dei Fiori/Piazza Navona/Pantheon area better located, since I walk around Roma at night quite a bit. I also travel solo. A taxi back to the station for your departure will only cost €10-20, depending on your hotel location. I usually choose a hotel near a bus stop where a bus goes to Termini, reducing the cost to about €1.50.

I have never felt unsafe anywhere in Roma, but I generally stay in the historic center.

Have you checked Trip Advisor on this hotel? I've not stayed here cause I always stay on the other side of Termini, the Via Marsala side, at 4/6 Via Milazzo. I think the Termini area is no different than any other part of Rome. I've been OK around Termini. I wonder if you could email this hotel for assurances.

Oddly, the only scary experience I had in Italy was at the Ancona train station (on the Adriatico) when I was stalked by a Gypsy man on the Regionale train to Rome. My First Class ticket outsmarted him. For that reason, I'm always First Class on a train if available.

I walk alone at night in Napoli, my family thinks I'm crazy, but I'm OK.

Thank you for the replies. I have had a good look through the reviews for the hotel and all seems pretty standard. But then so do most of the reviews for other hotels in the Termini area, yet people have bad things to say about it.

The hotel is incredibly inexpensive compared to those located nearer the historical area, I couldn't really stretch my budget as I'm going solo. In the future I could split the cost of a more expensive and better located hotel with my partner but for this trip it is all on me.

I figured I could spend the evenings, 9-11pm, at a nearby restaurant so I wouldn't be doing any walking around the area after dark and get my sightseeing done in the day/early evening. I guess it's just the luck of the draw as to whether anything unfortunate happens. I stayed in a very busy, expensive area in Madrid and still had the misfortune of crossing paths with an attacker.

Thank you again for your replies, I appreciate your help.

We stayed at the Starhotel Metropole on the same street and about four blocks from the hotel you are looking at. In general we had no issue with the area at all. Everything you will be doing is west of the hotel and Via Cavour will be your connection road to the large roads in that direction.

I was really not impressed with the restaurants around the area and avoided them. Some I'm sure are perfectly fine. You WILL find many young African men trying to sell you scarves, wooden bowls and such. You cannot really look from one corner of a street to another without seeing them. They are pushy, some are rude - most go away when you tell them, however I am a fairly large guy not a single woman traveling alone.

We never had an issue the whole time in Rome, it was a great trip, however you are choosing a uber budget hotel and I would totally expect you will find that local clientele also does, especially near Termini. That said the location for trains cannot be beat. I looked at the reviews for that hotel "Everything was bad" and "external toilets" is the theme. I would not stay there.
