Hotel Confirmation- - - numbers or anything

We have reserved several hotel rooms in Cinque Terre, Sorrento, and Rome.
Some have sent an email saying confirmation and reservation Info but no numbers and some have not written back except to say the price, availability, etc. and to send credit card info to them. Used to getting aconfirmation number in the USA. The helpline is phenomenal-Thanks

You won't get a confirmation number, but until you send the credit card info AND THEY SEND YOU A CONFIRMATION EMAIL AFTER THAT the room is not reserved. You should followup with them if it's been more than three days or so. Buon viaggio!

I can echo what Gio wrote. When I made reservations in Italy & other countries this spring, I got an email confirmation from each hotel that said in effect "ok, we got your credit card info, you're set". The one place that didn't (in the Cinque Terra, BTW) I ended up calling and they said their email connection was down so they hadn't received my credit card info (nor could they tell me about it). Glad I called before they gave my reservation away!

Karen, you are not traveling in the US so do not expect or anticipate that US business practice are followed in Europe. They have a tendency to follow their business practices and when they do that, uninformed Am tourist tend to yell scam. I don't think we have ever received a "confirmation number" for any of our reservations. Generally an email acknowledgment is the most we have received and is more than adequate.

As long as you have an e-mail stating that your reservation is confirmed don't worry about not having a confirmation number. Most hotels are small and not using a computer reservation system.

Karen, Do print out the email confirms and take them with you. I put one of each in my suitcase and in my hand luggage. Even with on-line conf# numbers, it's a good back-up if there are any misunderstandings about what is/isn't included in the price, type of room, etc.
