Hotel Condotti

I’m going to be in Rome for the first time, for 4 nights in December. l know it sounds silly but I really really want a balcony. I get claustrophobic otherwise.

Some of the rooms I’m looking at (superior main building) have balconies and some don’t and they won’t guarantee one. Plus there’s no flexible rate. I’d have to pay in full now with no refund if I cancel.

Has anyone stayed here? How many of the rooms in the main building have balconies? Is there somewhere else that guarantees a balcony and is just as close to the Spanish steps (that doesn’t require pre payment)?

Any advice very gratefully received 🙏🏻.

booking.com has a "Balcony" filter you can set under "Room Amenities" when you search for a room in Rome. Why don't you take a look there and see if you can find some options for the nights you need. Follow up with the hotels to see what they will and will not promise you.

There is no way I'd book a non-cancellable room for December in April.

I agree with the previous poster. I booked a non-refundable room with Condotti for March 2020. Cancelled due to the pandemic. They were very inflexible so I had to eat it. They told me they would give me a "special rate" when I rescheduled the trip. They were only kidding.

This is a case when it appears booking.com offers more flexible terms than the hotel itself. Everything seems to be available via reservation cancellable until 2 days before arrival. Of course, those rates are higher than the non-refundable rates. I don't know your travel dates, but there's a junior suite with terrace among the offerings.

you have to watch that carefully. booking.com had up to a week to cancel in San Antonio for spring break. The hotel said 48-hours. After I booked, the language changed. The moral of the story is to not book the special, non-refundable rate unless you have absolute certainty that you will make the trip.

Thank you so much to all you lovely people for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it. The weird thing was all rooms for this hotel offered a flexible rate except the room type I wanted. To be honest, I’d be willing to pay upfront if they would guarantee balcony rooms but they won’t. It’s so odd. You’d think they’d charge more for balcony rooms and I’d happily pay it, but they don’t. My travel agent says hotels with balconies are unusual in the Spanish Steps area but that doesn’t seem right. I haven’t been overseas in 40 years and I’m finally doing this, so I guess I have a bit of a romantic vision 👀

The Spanish Steps area would not be our choice of where to stay at all unless high end shopping is your thing

Look near Pantheon, Piazza Navonna

I chose the area near the Spanish Steps because I wanted my mum (79) to be able to walk to restaurants and to all the main attractions. Moving 6 people in taxis or by train would be a bit of a hassle. I also wanted a reasonably lively evening place. We certainly have no interest in high end shops. Maybe it’s not the right location 🤷🏻‍♀️
