I’m traveling for first time on RS Tuscany tour next April, 2026. The first hotel for the tour is hotel cellai in Florence. Is this hotel worth staying a couple of nights on my own as I want to book 1 day before and 1 day after tour. Thoughts or better ideas? Thanks
We just did that, arriving the day before our trip and coming back the last night before we flew out. It's a nice hotel and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Importantly, it's easy to get a taxi there to and from the airport. Our first room on the tour there was small and that was the same room for the first few nights of the tour. The last night when we came back from Lucca our room was bigger and nicer. There were 8 people or more from our group of 24 that returned to the same hotel the night the tour ended and everyone who flew in early stayed there the extra night.
Hi - we haven't stayed at that hotel but have at one a few blocks northwest of it. In case you're looking for things to do during your stay before/after, you will be close to excellent Museo di San Marco, and Piazza della Santissima Annunziata with the church of the same name, and 15th-century, Brunelleschi,-designed foundling home Ospedale degli Innocenti with the famous della Robbia tondi on the facade. Basilica Santissima Annunziata has a wonderful entry cloister with frescoes painted by some of the who's who of the Italian Renaissance/Mannerist eras.
It's possible that your guide will cover this piazza on your 2nd day walk - it's really close to the Accademia - or maybe even on the first evening's welcome stroll but in case they don't.... In any case, I'd try to do Museo San Marco if at all possible.
