Hotel Campo de Fiori question

Is the 50E a night difference between a classic double or a delux double worth it? I think the classic views a wall and the delux views out over the rooftops.

Is the wall terrible to look at? We do like a bit of a view.

Thanks!

We enjoyed the hotel and had the least expensive room. It was very small but freshly done with a new modern bathroom. We had the wall view and a window would have been nice but we are so busy in Rome that we really don't sit in the room looking out the window anyway. We did enjoy the rooftop terrace with 360 degrees. In the countryside we opt for the view rooms. The front desk is very good. I do have to highly recommend the spices at the large stand, very close to the hotel, at the Farmers Market. They make easy gifts to bring home too.

It depends on how much the view is worth it to you. 50E is about $70 right now. That'd buy a nice dinner. If you are only going to be 'home' first thing in the morning and after it gets dark at night, then it's probably not worth the cost.

My first trip to Rome we stayed near the Vatican. My room faced a wall. From the upstairs breakfast room, we could see part of St. Peter's dome. You might be able to find a (free) vantage point that satisfies you. Having a wall didn't bother me as we spent very little time in the room except for sleeping/showering.

Wow... I was JUST pondering the same thing... and was searching websites for feedback and saw your post. We have booked a 4 night stay at the hotel for this July. I booked the classic double, and was wondering if it's worth the "upgrade" to the deluxe double also. I envision that my wife and I won't be sitting around in the room staring out the window in Rome (we booked a great sea-view room for our hotel in Positano but that's a given!) so I put view for our Rome hotel on a low priority. I especially thought so since the hotel has that amazing roofdeck. But what I'm stressing over is that I don't want a sub par room in terms of the quality and decor. The pictures of the rooms on the website and on tripadvisor etc. are what we want. I just hope the standard rooms don't lack that charming look. If they are, I'll consider booking the deluxe. Do you happen to know if all rooms have the same design concept and if the classic is considerably smaller or designed differently? Let me know if you have any other info... and maybe we can both make a final choice! :)

Hi globetrottah- We don't spend much time in our room either... except when we first arrive in country. We tend to really veg the first day. I am leaning toward the deluxe double - as we tend to enjoy a view.

Karen- can you answer the questions about subpar decor/condition of the room in the "classic" class?

Sally, when we stayed in Florence, our rooms were very lovely but the only view was to the street below. But the B&B had a rooftop deck also overlooking the rooftops. I can't tell you enough how much we took advantage of it and the lovely view. After sightseeing all day, somewhere around late afternoon, we stop to rest our feet and bought some fresh cheese along with a bottle of wine and took it to the rooftop to enjoy as the sun went down. It was one of our favorite memories. After dinner, we came back to the deck and enjoyed the lite up buildings along with another glass of wine.

Just saw you had more questions. I went back to my reservation and it was a "standard double". I then looked on the hotel's site. They appear to have remodeled which is surprising as on our confirmation they state they they had just remodeled and the room was painted a dark rich color and as we recall modern style and not the furniture they now picture. It was certainly not dowdy or funky more minimalist as it was a very small room. Good bed, great bathroom and quiet. We stayed 6/08. The reservation desk was very responsive and you might ask your question. I see on www.tripadvisor 10/09 someone wrote that they were happy in their standard room. I did read one older complaint about cigarette smell and I would certainly verify non-smoking.
