I'm personally a fan of booking.com because it often allows me to make reservations with no cancellation fees up to a certain date. As making reservations far in advance runs the risk of plans going haywire, it's nice to have that option. It's also really easy to navigate.

You also can't review an accommodation on that site without actually having stayed in it. Not sure that's true of Hotels.com.

Unfortunately I have never used Hotels.com and I only tried Bookings.com because so many people on this forum gave it high praise. So far everything has gone great with them, and the proof will be when the vacation is over and see how our rooms turn out. I did half the vacation on Bookings.com and half on my own through the hotel web site.

I have used Hotels.Com for stays in the States with good luck. For my upcoming trip to Italy I mostly booked directly with the hotels, but did use Booking.Com for one reservation.

Well, that is how I did it 2 times before, going straight thru the hotel. But the second time I had to change my credit card 2x because it was "taken". I would rather go straight to the hotel, but it really was a hassle getting a new card 2x before I left.

Maybe I'll give it a try again. How do you protect your card? Are you usually charged for cancellations or changes?

thanks

Well, I haven't found the hotel itself, it seems to be listed with hotel-finding companies.

I can save $100 by going thru Venere, but I have to pay the VAT. Free cancellation.
Who has experience with Venere? Are they dependablel? Any probleme?

tnx

Venere is a very respected hotel finder service in Europe. I've used them many times. Usually Booking.com is cheaper, but if you found a better price on Venere, go ahead and book!

Well, folks, progress is being made. Cancelled previous rooms in Torino, found much better ones at just a little more.
We are on our way, folks.

thanks for all the suggestions. They truly did help.
