We are planning a trip next September (mid-month) to Sicily. I am curious how many months in advance should I book my preferred hotels in Taormina and Castellammare Del Golfo as they are popular destinations. Intersted in when to book restaurants as well.

3 months is usually sufficient to have plenty of choice in September. Maybe longer if you are there on a weekend and you want to stay at one particular property. However you can find accommodations even at the last minute. For example if you go to Booking.com you will find plenty available in Taormina or nearby Giardini for this weekend, which is obviously a busy time (temperatures are still in the mid/high 70s).
Restaurants you can generally reserve on the same day, even just before going. If it's a party of 2 or 1, they can often sit you without reservations, maybe after a wait. Remember that Italians love to go out to dinner on Saturday nights and especially at lunch on Sundays, so if you must go to a specific super popular restaurant at those times, you might want to reserve a few days in advance.

Hi Renee. I’m currently in Sicily. Arrived mid Sept. Stayed in Castellamare del Golfo & absolutely loved it! I booked a fabulous Airbnb about 3 months in advance. I have moved on to Castelmola, the tiny village above Taormina, so I can’t speak to reserving something in the city but I booked my Airbnb in Castelmola 4 months in advance since it’s so tiny with less rentals. September is still high season in most places so if you’re particular about where you stay it’s wise to book on the earlier side.
