When requesting rates I chose a room with a king size bed even though it stated for 2. I am traveling with 2 children under 13. Will I be able to keep the room--have to pay exta upon arrival--or should I notify the hotel now and change and thus increase my rate???
Since you posted to "To the Boot" area of the Helpline I'm assuming you are traveling to Italy. In the US, rooms are priced by the room, and if you can fit in another person people have been known to do that. In Europe, especially in Italy, rooms are priced by the occupant rather than completely by room. If you have 3 people in your party you must tell them 3 people when making the reservation. You could say 1 adult and 2 children, but you mustn't sneak any in. For health and safety reasons, and legal and tax reasons all the visitors must be recorded. In Italy, as well, you need to be prepared to leave your passport with the desk for registration with the police...
Celeste What Nigel said. Also, you must have enough beds for all 3 people. The king size bed for 2 and another rollway type bed for the third. And you may be required to get a triple room. Many many European hotel rooms are not big enough to put an extra cot/rollaway in the room anyway! Check with the hotel via email to see if they can accommodate you without using a triple which is more expensive and less available than a double. Good luck! Bobbie
you need to notify the hotel
thank you all for your advice--I'll change my reservation.
I would contact the hotel and discuss it with them. Explain the ages of the children, even let them know that the room you reserved is fine, and get their response. It may very well be that there will be no change in price, or probably less than the rack rate for a triple.
