Hotel booking activities vs internet bookings

Is it best to pre-book activities through the internet or do you get a better rate having the hotel book for you?

A lot of times it's a matter of convenience. I booked our Vatican tickets online as it was a straight-forward website process. But the Borghese with Roma Pass couldn't be done online (and this was before they had the callback feature), so I asked our hotel to do it and they emailed us the confirmation information. Easy as pie. Don't think the rate is usually affected unless you have to book through a third party internet site that tacks on a fee.

Assuming you are asking about museums, etc. Use the internet but if you encounter problem then ask the hotel. For example, last year we under estimate the need for tickets to the Alhambra in Granada and could not reserve via the internet. In that situation our hotel knew way to get tickets. So they did, the price was the same. Again, in Florence our hotel arranged the tickets at the same price. Do whatever works.

I can tell you that we are leaving Friday for Italy and I have booked everything in advance. From the Uffizi to Accademia in Florence to the Vatican and Coliseum guided tours I did everything online and am done paying for all "attractions" we wanted to see.
