Booked Superior class rooms at both hotels, based on RS Guidebook recommendation. Any traveller comments or advice?
We stayed at Hotel Al Piave last year and had no complaints. Room was clean, staff was friendly, breakfast was good. I also liked the location. Did get a bit lost the first time trying to find it, but that is half the fun! Have a wonderful trip.
Getting lost is something you must do in Venice to truly experience it ;) I was with my small group of college aged kids..my instructor was frustrated that we were not carrying our maps (we had been in Rome and Florence, didn't really need to) so after visiting a church he said, "Okay! Find your way back to your hotel! We'll leave from there at 8 for dinner!" Took about an hour to walk and find the hotel, but it was a memorable adventure. Venice is fun to get lost in, anyways. Enjoy!
I'm ok with getting lost provided I am not pulling a 40 lb. suitcase behind me. Once the luggage is deposited at the hotel, I could wander aimlessly for days.
Of course, Marianne. Understandable. Reminds me of Garmisch when I thought from a hotel website that our hotel was 5 minutes walking from the train station. After lugging 50 lb suitcase and my backpack for 20+ minutes in the heat, we finally arrived. Realized it must have been 5 minutes driving. Print out maps ahead of time. If you'll be walking from the train station, route it on Google or another map service, and print out the image--that will help you get to your hotel quickly!
