We are looking for hostel suggestions for our family of four in Rome, Venice and Italy. While I have yet to check out HI Hostels I wi see if anyone has suggested hostels that they have stayed at.

I have stayed at the HI Hostel in Venice. It has pros and cons. The biggest disadvantage is that it is not on the main island of Venice, it is on Giudecca. However, Giudecca is actually a nice place. Whilst there are not a lot of sites to see there, it is quiet and uncrowded, and has great views of the main island. The problem is that you must take a vaporetto to get there, which could be inconvenient if you have lots of luggage. The actual hostel is nice, and the rooms are big. My room had a view of the main island.
