I have three days in Rome April 20-23rd. Where is the best hostel? Near major sights, clean, safe, reasonably priced and available on such short notice.
Check out The Beehive, and its various options that include a hostel.
The Beehive books quickly and I hope you get it, but failing that, look at airbnb.com this is a website for economical bed/breakfasts and sometimes even just rooms in homes This is your least expensive option, which I am assuming (which I don't like to do) because you are looking at hostels. Any time you get an opportunity to go to Italy, you should GO!
Keith, It might be too late to get a booking at The Beehive, but you can certainly try. I'd highly recommend Alessandro Palace, which is in the same area near Termini station. That's my preferred Hostel in Rome (I stay in Hotels on some trips and Hostels at other times). The rooms at Alessandro Palace are modern and clean, with electronic card locks which also activate the electrics in the room. A four bed dorm is €35 which is a good price for Rome (as I recall, it's "cash only" for payment). Small Lockers are provided in the rooms and AFAIK each room has an ensuite. The breakfast is a bit "spartan", but adequate. Alessandro has another property nearby (Alessandro Downtown) but I've never stayed there so not sure what the facilities are like. Happy travels!
Thank you to Michael, Donna and Ken. I appreciate your advice so very much!
Hi Keith, When we were looking for places to stay in Rome, we found the Roma Camping Village. It looks to be very close to the city center (they have a shuttle to take you in and back), and it was very affordable. We didn't go that route this trip (we are going in May and found a place using airbnb) because we have kids and decided to stay right in town. But, it looked like a good choice! Here's the link: http://www.ecvacanze.it/en/camping/camping-in-town/roma-camping-village/. Good luck!
